The Iron Man Project was conceived as a way to use the process of cosplay to teach S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) at Nerd Nite. With the project, we will be building a wearable replica of the Iron Man armor [as seen in the films] and document the process to form a presentation that teaches the DIY process that we’ve created.
Cosplay is a very popular form of mixing the fandom of pop culture and the enthusiasm of being a maker. Nerd Nite is an evening of entertaining and though-provoking presentations that are meant to remind people that learning is fun. Building an Iron Man suit and using it to educate others is a natural extension of Nerd Nite’s mission.
The objective of the Iron Man project is to explore the creative process of cosplay with a team, document the construction from idea to completion, and create an educational presentation. We will explore 3D printing, prototyping, costume design, wearable tech, and photogrammertry, among other areas.
Maker Faire is the perfect venue for the initial debut of the Iron Man Project.
Nerd Nite is an evening of entertaining yet thought-provoking presentations. Speakers present for 15 minutes on a fascinating subject. Presentations are followed by a brief Q&A with the audience.
