SOFWERX is a platform designed and operated to help solve challenging problems for U.S. Special Operations Command through increased collaboration and innovation. Our charter is to maintain a platform to accelerate delivery of innovative capabilities to USSOCOM, and to facilitate capability refinement through exploration, experimentation, and assessment of promising technology. We have an unclassified, open-door facility in Tampa, Florida where we work with SOF warfighters, inter-agency partners, labs & academia, industry experts, and the maker / hacker / open source community — especially non-traditional solution providers — as a neutral facilitator.
Doolittle Institute / Defensewerx, headquartered in Niceville, Florida, is a a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which operates SOFWERX under a Partnership Intermediary Agreement (PIA) with USSOCOM. DI is named in honor of James “Jimmy” Doolittle, commander of WWII’s historic Doolittle Raid. The Doolittle family granted approval to use the general’s name through a memorandum of agreement in early 2012.
